In 2001 Jimmy Deitch convinced his wife, Patty McWilliams, that now was the time to put their heads together and launch a storefront. With Patty's extensive retail experience and Jimmy's passion for the sea, beach and Jimmy Buffett... an overall concept was crafted.
Jimmy turned in his captain’s license and Patty jumped on the phone. Inspired by their surroundings - the store quickly took shape and rolls were defined. Patty tackled the designer furniture, linens and rugs - while Jimmy collected "neat items" like brass lanterns, model sailboats and ship wheels.
With merchandise showing up at their doorstep daily, it was time to finalize a location. Although the Pineapple Grove area was just getting started, Jimmy went with his gut feeling. He grabbed a beach chair, a few Coronas and parked himself right in the heart of Pineapple Grove. After two weeks, YES TWO WEEKS, of monitoring the local crowd/traffic - Jimmy was certain he had found the right spot.
Yet, this new venture still lacked a name. Before Jimmy could pull his beach chair and another Corona back out - Patty delivered a now famous line... "Your boating days are over Jimmy. You're a beached boat now."
