Located in the Pineapple Grove arts district of downtown Delray Beach, Florida, the Beached Boat coopened in 2001 as a collaboration ofJimmy Deitch & Patty McWilliams.
Prior to starting the Beached Boat co,, Jimmy, was a boat Captain and his wife, Patty, a store manager with the very popular Tommy Bahama Clothing Emporium. They brought together their expertise to create a fun, bright beach cottage decor store in their new hometown of Delray Beach.
The idea for the Beached Boat co was Jimmy’s. Having relocated to Delray Beach from the west coast of Florida; Jimmy was ready to turn in his captain’s license for a new venture. At the first mention of opening a storefront selling “neat things” like brass lanterns, ships wheels and sailboat models, Jimmy had to convince Patty to get on board. To steer him in the right direction, Patty started purchasing “Coastal Living” magazine, and Jimmy was challenged to find everything in the pages of the magazine to complete the look of the waterfront lifestyle.
As far as the location, Jimmy sat in a beach chair on the corner of 2nd Street NE & 2nd Avenue NE in Pineapple Grove for two weeks to monitor the traffic …sipping a few Coronas now and then. With all his research done and a business plan laid out, now for a name…and Patty’s final warning about opening a business – forget about days of boating, you will be so beached - said it all!
Thus began the Beached Boat co, where customers were urged to
come see what’s washed ashore…
Today, as we embark on the eighth year in business, are proud to announce the plans to launch of our very own furniture designs and collections.
Caribbean Brights will definitely catch your eye with vibrant colors.
Classic Nautical will make you nostalgic for the days of childhood summers at the shore.
